IntroductionWellness is a way of life. It is a commitment towards self-awareness and healthy lifestyle choices, which ultimately results in a more balanced existence. To achieve balance we must look at wellness as being multi-dimensional. This means to feel satisfaction and fulfillment on a social, occupational, spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional level. There cannot be health problems in any of these dimensions without its being reflected upon the others. Social - Our social lives are enriched by connections with our friends, families, colleagues, co-workers, neighbors, communities, and nature. Occupational - Our careers should be a positive part of our lives in which we gain personal satisfaction and enrichment. Spiritual - As humans we have a strong desire to seek meaning and purpose in our existence. It includes the deep appreciation and respect for all life and the natural forces of our universe. Physical - For optimum strength and flexibility it is important to be physically active. This also encourages knowledge of food and nutrition to help make wise meal choices. Intellectual - In order to function optimally, our minds must be challenged with different stimulating and creative activities that go beyond the work or school environment.
Emotional - To be emotionally fulfilled entails the awareness and acceptance of one's feelings. This includes how much one feels positive and enthusiastic about ourselves and our lives as well as the ability to manage personal feelings and behaviors, stress, and individual limitations.
